A large field of junior competitors are set to invade the South West Kart Club.

THIS weekend sees Cobden’s South West Kart Club host the sixth and final round of the 2012 Victorian Country Series.

Club spokesperson Chris Place said it is the Cobden venue’s biggest event of the year.

“We are expecting over 150 competitors in 13 classes which should make for a busy weekend,” said Place.

Some of the leading local contenders this weekend include Mitchell Mackay and Jack, in the Junior National Light division and Blake Walsh who competes in the Rookies section.

A pair of brothers are also expected to feature prominently, with Ben and Darcy Micallef in the Cadets category, along with Liam and Jarrod Balcombe competing in Clubman karts.

Place said there will also be a function held on Saturday night.

“It will be a big social night, with the club putting on a roast meal and music for competitors.

“With camping allowed at the facility we are expected a good turnout,” he said.

Practice commences on Saturday from 8am with racing to get under way at 2pm.

On Sunday, karts hit to the track chasing victory from 9am.

Presentation of event and overall series trophies will follow racing on Sunday.
