Club wants you in the driver’s seat – from the Central Queensland Times

THE track is ready, the karts are coming and it all starts next month with the first club membership drive on Saturday, December 3.

The Emerald Karting Club is seeking new recruits to join in the racing action at the new facility on Emerald’s outskirts, which is labelled as the first of its kind in Australia.

“No other track is as big as this,” Emerald Karting Club vice-president Dean Davies said.

After months of “jumping through hoops” and finalising the track’s particulars, Davies said the club has stamped February 4, 2012, as the date for the official opening.

“There were a few things which needed final approval,” he said.

“We wanted to make sure everything was done properly the first time.

“The track is complete and regular practice will begin for licensed drivers and members after Christmas.”

One meet they have planned will even surpass the highly regarded Supercheap Auto Series, Davies said.

“This will leave it in its wake,” he predicted.

But before the racing gets underway, the club is calling on current, former and prospective kart club members to sign up for the new season.

Kart enthusiasts will be able to view the throttle-fuelled machines up close at the 3CI carpark on Hospital Rd from 9am to 3pm and talk with current drivers and club committee representatives about getting into the sport.
