CHILDREN will have a chance to get behind the wheel and give kart racing a go at Archerville Raceway on Sunday.

The Launceston Kart Club will hold a have-a-go day from 10am to 2pm to generate greater interest in the motor sport.

Club promotions officer Stuart Lee said there would be three age categories on the day – 7 to 11, 13 to 16 and 17 and over.

“People will have about 10-minute sessions, which is a fair time out on the race track,” Lee said.

“All the equipment will be provided on the day.

“Children get entertainment and the skills of learning to drive out of karting.

“All of our young guys go on to get their open licence to drive on the road – their driving skills are much more enhanced because they are actually aware of what’s around them.”

Lee said all participants under 18 would need a parent or guardian present to participate.

Cost is $20 a person.
