Generally when people think of Coffs Harbour in Northern New South Wales the first thoughts that come in their head will be rest and relaxation.

However, for more than 250 kart racers from various parts of the country the rest and relaxation will be a long way from their mind next weekend when they line up at the New South Wales Open Sprint Karting Championships.

Drivers as young as ten years of age, through to the more experienced in life at more than 40 years of age, will be in action at the championships where they will reach speeds in excess of 110 km/h around the 670-metre circuit.

It is the first time in many years that the Coffs Harbour Kart Racing Club and with 13 categories being contested, the action will come thick and fast across the weekend.

Coffs Harbour Kart Racing Club’s President Troy Brown says the event will provide the region with a boost, both for the karting and wider Coffs Harbour communities.

“There is no doubt that this event is the largest karting event we’ve had here in Coffs Harbour for many years, it’s fantastic that we’ve been given the opportunity to host such a prestigious event,” said Brown.

“With drivers, teams and families arriving from Tuesday to begin practice on Wednesday we estimate that the event will inject more than $500,000 into the local economy when you consider the amount of accommodation, meals and other associated spending that comes with the event.

“We would also expect that a number of these people will take the opportunity on the days surrounding the event to take in some of the great sights in the Coffs Harbour region.”
