CHALLENGING TIME FOR HRYNIUK IN JAPAN

East Coast Title Clubman Champion Jason Hryniuk endured a challenging time during the main event at the All Japan Yamaha Championship at Tsumagoi, Japan across the weekend.

After the three-time Australian Champion set a time of 34.061 seconds to qualify in fifth position, which was less than two-tenths of a second behind the pace of pole-sitter Kiwi Matthew Hamilton, on Saturday, he was confident of a good showing during Sunday’s two races.

“I only got my lease motor just in time for qualifying and it changed the tune of the carburetor witch made it four stroke and with no tuning on the low speed I couldn’t get the four stroke while I was out there,” said Hryniuk after qualifying.

“I’d like to think I would have been a few tenths faster but there’s nothing I can do apart from go out tomorrow and give it my best.”

Unfortunately Hryniuk’s raceday didn’t go to plan, after holding down third place in the opening race an altercation with another competitor dropped him well down the order and as a result he was forced to start the final from 13th position.

Hryniuk got a bad start to the final, which was later magnified by a poor chassis set up choice, and eventually finished 15th in the main event.

“I think we finished 14th or 15th we don’t usually count that far back,” said Hryniuk.

“I lost around 4kg to make sure I was closer to weight but they run a further 5kg lighter than Australia and I had to run the CIK-spec bumper bar which made the kart slightly heavier so I was still well over the minimum weight which didn’t help my cause across the weekend.

“The incident in the first race really hurt my chances at a top result but it has been a great experience and I would like to thank Yamaha and Bridgestone for the opportunity.”

Hryniuk will return to Australia later this week before beginning his preparations for the South Australian Championships to be held at the Monarto Karting Complex, just outside of Murray Bridge on November 26-28.
