The Cockburn International Raceway will come alive next weekend (April 28/29) with 200 competitors set to converge on the Western Australian venue for the Carnival of Karts.

Fresh from hosting the 2011 National Championships, the Tiger Kart Club committee has been working tirelessly over the past six months to prepare for what they hope will be on of the state’s premier karting events.

In an effort to attract the best drivers from all across the state, the club has secured some huge industry support for the event with over $15,000 worth of cash and prizes up for grabs.

With the 1070mtr Cockburn International Raceway regarded as one of Australia’s best kart tracks with fast high-speed sweepers and super smooth eight-metre surface all in amphitheater like surroundings the racing will make for some great spectator viewing.

Adding further interest to the event will be the fact that the Carnival of karts meeting will be run in a reverse direction that makes the main straight a super fast downhill run that will see the karts in the Open category approaching 130km/h.

Given the popularity of the Open class in Western Australia, this category will be the ‘feature’ class with competitors lining up for their share of $3,000 prize money.

One of the most talked about karts in the region is that of current WA State Champion Wayne Bell. His Tony Kart is fitted with a pair of 125cc IAME Leopard engines producing in excess of 60hp.

Along with a huge number of latest spec six-speed gearbox karts expected to mount a challenge against Bell for the top honour, Matthew Morton s been testing and developing his 20,000RPM 200cc twin engine Trulli Kart in preparation for the event.

Also in action across the weekend will be Western Australia’s three current National Champions. Jessie Elliot, Stuart Verco and WA’s Clubman Heavy legend Kip Foster will be out to prove they can win in both directions against WA’s best drivers.

Racing starts at 9.00am both days and entry is free so bring down the whole family for what will be one huge weekend of kart racing.

The Cockburn International Raceway is located on Gemma Rd, Henderson (off Cockburn Rd), Cockburn.
