The Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) will give one lucky Australian female racing driver an opportunity to win a full season in the 2012 Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup.
The FIA’s Women in Motor Sport Commission (WMC), has joined with Volkswagen Motorsport to offer one talented driver a full season in the 2012 Scirocco R-Cup.
The Australian selected by the CAMS Women of Australian Motor Sport Committee will undertake an Evaluation Day at the Oschersleben circuit in Germany on 10th November.
The driver selected from there will go on to the Scirocco R-Cup – and will be chosen based on theoretical lessons, media training and, of course, driving prowess.
Approximately ten girls will be selected from all over the world to compete at the Evaluation Day for the final prize.
The Scirocco R-Cup is a German-based series, competing on such famous circuits as Nurburgring, Hockenheim and Brands Hatch, and is the first singe-make cup with natural gas technology, producing 80 percent less CO2 emissions.
This opportunity is the second time this year, young Australian female drivers have been offered the opportunity of a lifetime through the work of the FIA’s Women in Motor Sport Commission.
After the success of Caitlin Wood earlier this year in the CIK-FIA Karting Academy shoot-out, CAMS is enthusiastic about the opportunity to nominate another young Australian for this exciting opportunity.
“Australians have proven that they have the talent to challenge the world in motor sport, whether they are male or female,” said Leanne Tander, Australian Delegate to the FIA’s Women in Motor Sport Commission.
“Dan Ricciardo, Will Power, Ryan Briscoe, Mark Webber, Casey Stoner, even young drivers like Geoff Uhrhane and Nick McBride are all great examples of Australians taking their opportunity to perform on an international stage.
“There is no shortage of driving talent in Australia, and that includes female drivers – Caitlin Wood’s performance at the CIK-FIA Karting Academy shoot-out proves that.
“We think we can find an Australian driver that can challenge for this opportunity to be on a pretty big stage next year.”
Time to nominate for the Scirocco R-Cup opportunity is running out – nominations close on Friday 7th October, 2011.
Candidates can be any female racing driver born between 1987 and 1995.
