Cairns goes on show! - from the Cairns Kart Club

The display at the recent Cairns Show.

For the past four years, the Cairns Kart Racing Club has operated a Food/Drink Stall at the Cairns Show.

They recently just had the 2011 show with significant success where Club Members took up the option of having the food and drink stall and also manned a static display of karts in the Heritage Area behind the animal nursery.

The club last held a Static Display in the Heritage area (behind animal nursery) in 2007 after which the Dairy Farmers Girl Guides permanent Stall became available, it was agreed that the club take up the option to rent this permanent building to fundraise by operating the food/drink stall in 2008.

The club has done this every year since and have not made a total loss but haven’t hit the jackpot either until now – 2011 a last ditch effort and change of menu the club made a tidy profit – plus they broadcasted into the passing crowd using a ipod docked into a speaker which sat on the top of the counter, the club also held a static display once again and many comments were made on the presentation of this display.

Local dealer Michael Peake closed up his shop for the week to get the display together and manned it for the three days, with assistance from club members on the Friday (mostly). Peake believes that the display received a good response from the patrons and the club should gain some new drivers and prospective volunteers over the next few months.
