BUNBURY’S Brock Kenny has been placed in the fast lane after winning the Northern Territory State Championships for go-karting.
Kenny competed in the aged 10 to 12 category on June 30 to July 1.
There were 17 competitors from across the country at the Hidden Valley Kart Track.
It was an intense weekend for the 11-year-old who went in five races before the final.
In the qualifying sessions Kenny finished 18th and third.
Kenny then went on to finish third and second in the two heats leading up to the pre-final where he went across the line second.
The final race was 16 laps and Kenny’s main rival was Victoria’s Cooper Murray.
They swapped the lead multiple times before Kenny came out on top with six second to spare.
While Kenny said it was not the biggest competition he had been in it was still good to get a state title.
Kenny has been given a wild card to compete at the world final of Mini Rok in Italy in October.
“Hopefully I can get some sponsorship for this because it would be good to compete against racers from Italy, Europe and the US,” he said.
There is only one other Australian representing their age group in the international competition.
Kenny began go-karting at the age of seven and practices most weekends at the Bunbury City Kart Club.
“The best part of go-karting is that you get to see lots of Australia, get to make so many friends and also safe driving that is so important because it can be dangerous,” he said.
Kenny’s mother Raelene said her son’s journey so far would not have been possible without his sponsors.
“Without their generous support he would not be able to do what he loves best,” she said.
