BUILDING BETTER KART CLUBS CONFERENCE INSPIRES CLUB AND STATE LEADERS

Phenomenal Teams author Garie Dooley facilitated several sessions and workshops

Representatives from all Karting Australia Member States and most of our affiliated Clubs have been motivated by the third Building Better Kart Clubs Conference in Melbourne this past weekend.

Following the launch of Karting Australia’s Strategic Plan – “Australian Karting Towards 2030” by Chief Executive Officer Kelvin O’Reilly, Phenomenal Teams author Garie Dooley facilitated several sessions and workshops throughout the day on Saturday.

Throughout the weekend, session topics included The Future of Sport, Harnessing the Power of Volunteers, Constitutions in the Modern Era, Women in Karting as well as several panels discussing club offerings and events and club media skills.  Other topics such as track safety and risk management led into a panel discussion focused an information sharing session regarding infrastructure challenges and opportunities.

“This is the third time we’ve hosted the Building Better Kart Clubs, each year the inspiration and opportunities for all that are involved in our sport continue to improve,” said O’Reilly.

“To have every State represented, through not only so many of our Clubs, but also every State Association Executive was very pleasing and the feedback that was being shared amongst the attendees was incredibly valuable.  One of the keys for our sport is to be able to embrace and act on the information from the conference and to have everyone on the same page and heading in the same direction.

“We look forward to seeing the inspirations turn into action and results for the States and Clubs across the country.”

While the presentations were insightful and inspirational, the conference provided a great opportunity for networking amongst club representatives.

Detailed below is some of feedback received from attendees:

“An awesome couple of days. It made me more aware of the things we are doing well and what we can improve on – both as a club and individually.” – Colin Masters, Darwin Karting Association.

“A well-executed and planned event. I walked away with plenty of inspiration, insight and a plan to implement some things at club level.” – Trish Lord, Eastern Lions Kart Club

“All presentations were relevant and interesting. Being able to network with the other clubs was of great value. The panels were probably the highlight with good insight from the other clubs and presenters,” – Steve Nicolson, Southern Go-Kart Club.

“Being able to share experiences with other clubs and learning new things that I can bring to our club was a real highlight for me.  It was great to be able to validate things we have done, have planned, or been discussing to do, and how they have worked, or not, elsewhere,” – Darrell Jeffrey, North Western Kart Club.

The 2024 Building Better Kart Clubs Conference will be held on May 4-5, 2024 with the location and venue to be confirmed later.
