Born and bred to go fast on four wheels – From the NT News
MAGDELAINE Breed hopes her passion for speed will land her behind the wheel of av8 Supercar.
The 20-year-old from Palmerston is already in her 14th year of a highly successful gokart career.
Finding room in her home for trophies has become harder than navigating the Hidden Valley kart track.
Her success continued last weekend with a second placing at the Ladies Nationals in Lithgow, NSW, a race that brought the best women karters to the Blue Mountains city. But driving a Supercar at Hidden Valley remains Breed’s ultimate goal in motorsport.
‘‘Kart racing has been a stepping stone to the V8s for a lot of years (Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup) and I want to be one of them,’’ she said. ‘‘ The Lithgow race where I got second was just another step for me and the travelling has only just begun. There’s a big event next weekend in Sydney, and I’m against the best of the best in Melbourne a few weeks later.’’
And her passion for speed on the racetrack?
‘‘I was born and bred into racing,’’ she said. ‘‘Dad (Bill Breed) and his family have always been involved, and I guess I got caught up in it. I’ve been racing since I was seven years old and the 14 years since have really flown.
‘‘Now it’s full steam ahead, get to No. 1 in Australia in karting, then it’s into car racing and especially the Supercars.
‘‘ Dad’s ongoing support and determination while travelling around Australia with me, paying the bills and being the best influence for my racing dreams has been a huge bonus.
‘‘ And our CRG team mechanic Danny Ferry has been great with his work in the pits.’’
Breed will be one of the big local hopes at the Australian titles in Darwin in July.
