Motor sport. Al Ain, United Arab Emirates: A hat-trick of second-placings has been enough to deliver Australia victory in the nations cup title at the Rotax Max Challenge karting grand final.
Joseph Mawson, Dave Sera and Jason Pringle all finished runners-up in their respective categories to deliver the overall teams title to the 11-driver Australian outfit. The event, at the Al Ain Raceway, featured 265 drivers from 59 countries competing in four categories. Mawson finished second in the junior max category, Sera was runner-up in the senior max class and Pringle came in behind Canada’s Pier-luc Ouellette in the DD2 class.
‘‘It’s always great to win but there’s always got to be someone who finishes second,’’ Pringle said. ‘‘I was really happy with the way in which the weekend has turned out. The whole team has done a great job this year and this shows by our victory in the nations cup.’’ The event has been running since 2000. AAP
