AUSTRALIAN PAIR THROUGH TO FINALS DAY IN GERMANY (includes live video stream details)

Chris Hays and Jason Faint on the grid for qualifying in Germany

Australian pair Chris Hays and Jason Faint have made the transfer into the action on finals day at the European KZ2 Championships in Germany.

Hays, the reigning Castrol EDGE CIK Stars of Karting Series Champion, led the way for the Australian pair with four top ten finishes from his six heat races.  While he battled with brake issues and encountered a DNF in the final race, Hays finished 33rd in the standings of the 97 drivers in attendance.

As a result, Hays will line up 17th in pre-final A this evening (Australian time).  With a pair of pre-finals, the top 17 finishers from each will achieve a start in the cut-throat final.

“Friday was a great day at the track and Saturday started off well too with a sixth placing, and fourth fastest time in heat three,” said Hays.

“My final three heats were less than perfect.  Heat four I got caught up in a crash and bent the steering but managed to finish 15th.  I then had major brake issues in heat five but managed to finish inside the top ten and the final heat I got crashed into and DNF.

“It’s now all on the line for the pre-final, I’ve got to finished in the top 17 to make it into the final.  I know we’ve got the pace but the aim is to really keep out of trouble.”

After qualifying 71st, Faint worked his way up the order despite being involved in various incidents along the way.

“It is very hard to finish races here with some of the crashes I’ve seen and still get a good result,” said Faint.

“Some how out of all of that, I have managed to sneak into the pre-final. It is going to take a lot of luck and some full on driving to finish in the top 17 to make the super final but I will give it a big go.”

The pre-final A (featuring Hays) begins at 7:50pm (AEST) with Faint’s pre-final B set to get the green light at 8:10pm (AEST).  Italian Marco Zanchetta (Maranello/TM) and Riccardo Negro (DR/TM) will start on pole position for each of the races.
