Karting Australia has implemented important changes concerning medical fitness and licensing responsibilities for participants in the updated 2025 National Competition Rules.
A Licence Holder will now be deemed Medically Inactive following a Significant Injury – such as a concussion – or any medical condition requiring hospital treatment or surgery. This designation prevents participation in karting activities until the Licence Holder obtains a written medical clearance from a registered medical practitioner. This Clearance Certificate must then be submitted to Karting Australia or the relevant State Karting Authority before the Medically Inactive status can be removed.
The Manual also introduces a new “Mandatory Disclosure” rule, which reminds Licence Holders of their responsibility to inform Karting Australia of any injury or condition that would make them Medically Inactive – whether it occurred as a result of kart racing or not.
The responsibilities of a Participant’s Licence Holder have also been clarified – particularly regarding when and how that responsibility can be transferred if they are going to be absent during a Meeting. The parent/guardian must formally notify Stewards and nominate a qualified Representative in advance or during the Meeting. Failure to do so will result in the minor driver’s disqualification. While this rule previously existed, the updated Manual now provides further clarity.
