AUSTRALIAN KART CHAMPIONSHIP CELEBRATES 50TH ROUND MILESTONE THIS WEEKEND

This weekend’s fourth round of the 2025 SP Tools Australian Kart Championship, presented by Castrol, will mark an historic milestone – the 50th round contested since the new era of the sport began.

Held at the Ipswich Kart Club in Queensland, the event will be a celebration of the Championship’s enduring legacy and its impact on Australian motorsport.

Over the past 10 years, the Championship has evolved to become the premierproving ground for the country’s best young drivers and seasoned karting veterans alike. With a reputation for professionalism, fierce competition, and a genuine development pathway, the Championship has helped shape the careers of many of Australia’s leading motorsport exports.

Oscar Piastri and Jack Doohan both raced and won at the national level before launching their international careers. Likewise, Broc Feeney and Kai Allen are now headline acts in the Repco Supercars Championship, while James Wharton, Lochie Hughes, Costa Toparis, and Alex Ninovic  along with many others, are competing across high-profile Formula categories in Europe and America.

“When you look at the list of champions and former round winners of the Australian Kart Championship over the past decade, it’s very impressive.  It’s fantastic to see so many young drivers who have starred in our Championship before chasing their motorsport dreams in other categories,” said Karting Australia CEO Kelvin O’Reilly.

“At Karting Australia, we’re proud to see young drivers progress through the ranks – but we’re just as proud of the incredible talent that continues to shine in the Australian Kart Championship, among those who have chosen kart racing as their forever home.”

Among those who have etched their name in the sport’s history book, is David Sera, Australia’s most successful karter, who capped off his illustrious driving career with a Championship win in the elite KZ2 category in 2016. Sera’s victory marked a generational milestone that reflected the Championship’s ability to crown both emerging and legendary talents.  He now shares his knowledge with the rising stars in the Championship through his KartClass outfit.

From Oscar Piastri’s breakout win in KF3 at the opening round in 2015 to Sam Dicker’s memorable KZ2 victory in 2023, and Lana Flack’s ground-breaking Cadet 12 round win – along with many, many other exceptional moments – the Championship has provided a platform for incredible racing and career-launching opportunities. Meanwhile, enduring figures like Brad Jenner, Troy Loeskow, James Sera and Jace Matthews have built long-standing legacies within the series.

As the 2025 season builds towards its conclusion, Ipswich will play host to a crucial round. Championship battles are on a knife’s edge, with every point now vital. The 50th round won’t just mark a statistical milestone – it will be a celebration of the drivers, officials, clubs, industry and families – all of whom have contributed to the Championship’s success.
