Recently crowned Rotax Light National Champion Pierce Lehane and Junior Rotax Runner-up Joseph Burton-Harris will line up against Europe’s best Rotax drivers at the final round of the Rotax Euro Challenge in France this weekend.

The pair will compete at the Salbris circuit, the venue where Australia’s greatest karting success was achieved when James Courtney won the World Championship in 1997.  It will be the second time that both Lehane and Burton-Harris has raced in the Challenge during 2012.

Lehane will once again join forces with the successful Dan Holland Racing outfit while Burton-Harris is pairing with fellow Australian Ben George in his newly formed R360 European set-up for this weekend’s event.

Competing in Round Two of the Challenge at Germany’s Wackersdorf circuit during May, Lehane was one of the pacesetters qualifying second fastest and winning two of his three heat races to line up on the front row for the Senior Rotax pre-final.

Unfortunately, he failed to complete a lap in the pre-final forcing him to start from 34th position in the 18-lap final.  Showing true determination Lehane charged up the order to be running in 12th position by mid race before crossing the line 11th.

At the German event Burton-Harris also showed he has the potential to mix it with the best Junior Rotax drivers in the world.  The Sydneysider set the second fastest time in qualifying before enjoying mixed results in his heat races.

Like his older counterpart, Burton-Harris also suffered a set-back in the pre-final and as a result he lined up from 26th position for the final.  Unfortunately, he would only finish 7 of the 14 laps in the final in Germany.

Fresh from their strong results at the Rotax Nationals, the pair are both confident of being able to mix it near the front of the field during this weekend’s event.
