AUSSIE PAIR INSIDE THE TOP 12 IN FRANCE

Australian pair Joseph Mawson and Jake Parsons have qualified sixth and 12th respectively for the opening pre-final at Round Two of the CIK-FIA Under 18 World Karting Championship in Angerville, France overnight.

After qualifying 13th fastest, Mawson three third placings and a fifth in his four heat races to be sixth in the standings at the end of Saturday’s proceedings.  The Top Kart driver has some strong speed while overcoming some minor issues during the heat races to be confident of a strong result in the final day of action on Sunday.

Parsons qualified 40th in the 71-driver field before putting in three solid performances in his heat races (6th, 14th, 9th and 7th) to be starting just outside the top ten in the opening pre-final.

Also competing in France is James Abela in the Academy Trophy for drivers aged 13-15.  The Sydneysider had a troublesome run in qualifying to be 44th, and last.  Despite this, he pushed hard in the heat races only to narrowly miss out on making the 28-kart grid for the Final A and will start from the outside of the front row in Final B.

Sunday’s action for the Under 18s will consist of two pre-finals, one of which is a full reverse grid and a final.

Also competing overseas this weekend is Victorian teenager Thomas Randle.  The FA Kart driver is lining up in the English Super One Series where he qualified fourth fastest in the Junior Rotax category.  He then ran inside the top three in his heat races before claiming fourth spot.

He will contest a pre-final and a final on Sunday.  To follow the live timing from England please click here.
