Allocation of engines by means of a lottery in the 2012 CIK-FIA World KF1 Championship - from the CIK-FIA

The FIA World Motor Sport Council which met today in Singapore has validated all the proposals put forward by the CIK-FIA. Amongst these was the principle of introducing the allocation of engines by drawing lots within the framework of next year’s CIK-FIA World Karting Championship reserved for the KF1 category.

As already practised for chassis in the “U18” World Championship, engine Manufacturers shall expressly enter the KF1 Championship stating that they are engines suppliers and they will put a defined number of identical and sealed engines at the disposal of the Drivers at each of the five rounds of the 2012 season. When entering the Championship, Drivers will indicate their engine brand of choice from amongst entered ones, and two engines of the said brand will be allocated to each Driver at each event by means of a lottery. These engines shall comply with the current KF2 regulations.

The World KF1 Championship therefore adopts one of the principles which contribute to the success of the other CIK-FIA World Championship, the one reserved for Drivers under 18 years of age. This measure will ensure better sporting equity in the Championship, limit its costs and restore private Drivers’ confidence as to this day they do not have access to the latest engine evolutions and so abstain from running in KF1.

The 2012 CIK-FIA World Karting Championship for the KF1 category has also been voted and like this year will comprise five events of four races each. The five meetings to be held in 2012 are: Varennes-s/Allier (FRA), Suzuka (JPN), PF International at Brandon (GBR), Sarno (ITA) and Macau (MAC).
