UNEXPECTED RESULTS UNVEILED IN MONARTO

The first visit for the Australian Kart Championships presented by Jayco and Castrol EDGE to South Australia’s Monarto Karting complex got underway in cool but clear conditions, with the second round of the Title already unveiling some unexpected results.

Sydney-sider Jaie Robson has been the pick of the crop in the elite KZ2 Gearbox category. The CRG pilot has won both races thus far, but pole-sitter – Jonathon Mangos and the snarling pack are keeping him honest.

Adelaide driver Mangos had Robson’s measure in the opening heat until the chain came adrift from his BirelART machine two laps from home, rendering him to the side of the racetrack, opening the door for Robson.

In KF2, another local in Josh Tynan is right up there in his Auto Racing Tours-backed Energy kart – however all eyes were on Harrington Doyle Racing Arrow Kartspilot Scott Sorenson. The Queenslander is enjoying the benefit of having local knowledge in Dunlop V8 Supercar Series driver Todd Hazelwood in his corner this weekend.

Sorenson and Tynan shared the heat race victories while round one winner Liam McLellan is recovering well after seizing an engine on his Holden-backed JC Kart during qualifying.

Monarto specialist Joshua Denton is looking the goods in KF3. The Adelaide driver is having a stellar weekend on the track where he already has a State and National Championship to his credit. Round one second placed man Reece Sidebottom and Championship leader, Oscar Piastri were second and third while Zane Morse failed to complete a lap in heat one with a technical issue – his brother Alec the absolute star charging from deep in the pack to finish fifth.

Brad Jenner’s good run of late continued in X30 winning both heats comprehensively and in the KA TaG category shared the race victories with Daniel Rochford. Others to impress included Adam Lindstrom, Brendan Nelson and Troy Morrissey.

In KA1 its been a knock ‘em down, drag ‘em out battle between Justin Francis and Toby Pope. Francis got the best of heat one from Pole after Pope got shuffled back into the challenging turn one. Pope was not going to offer Francis the same opportunity twice, slicing into the lead into the first turn and holding onto the lead until the chequers.

The Juniors in their opening stoushes didn’t disappoint as usual. The KA Junior class was arguably the race of the day.

Up to four competitors were in the mix for much of the race with Angelo Mouzouris walked away with the heat race win after a spirited battle with Broc Feeney, Jack Doohan and Jace Matthews. Tyler Everingham spun off with a handful of laps remaining after leading early.

In KA12 it was an unusually spread field however the inter-race battles were enticing. In the end Jay Hansson taking a victory over Cooper Webster and Kobi Williams.

At 8:30pm (ACST) tonight, a preview show recapping the action and meeting some of the stars of the Australian Kart Championship presented by Jayco and Castrol EDGE has been produced with tomorrow’s action live streamed via www.karting.net.au.
