Aidan on a fast track to success – From the Cairns Post

IT’S all systems go for local racing car driver Aidan Wright who is off for a year to Asia to not only race but teach.

The 18-year-old finished fourth in the JK Asia Racing series last year and completed a guest drive in the Formula Pilota China Series for the last round at Sepang.

‘‘This is my second year in the Chinese Formula Masters series which is a rebranding of Formula Three,’’ Mr Wright said from Melbourne’s Formula One Grand Prix.

‘‘It is run all over China with a big sponsor in Volkswagen.’’

Mr Wright was also elected to train up-and-coming drivers in Malaysia for the Asia Cup series, a six-round series in Formula BMW, in which he competed last year.

‘‘It’s a bit different – I won’t be able to joke around but will have to be serious because the people I am training will want to do their best,’’ Mr Wright said. ‘‘I will still be driving, though.’’ Wright competes in the SA state nationals next weekend before heading to Zhuhai in China for two practice days before the 2013 Formula Masters China series in May.

‘‘We were on pole at the last event so we are hoping to pull of the same result,’’ Mr Wright said.

It was his first time in the car and he was in pole position twice.

Meantime he is watching Formula One as inspiration for his ultimate dream of standing on the Formula One podium by 2016.

Wright, a former Trinity Anglican School student, started racing in 2004 when he got his first go-kart and to date he has 34 titles between Formula Asia, Formula BMW Pacific, Formula V6, and GP2 Asia.
