ROOKIE and junior Sapphire Kart Club members were put to the test by drivers from Canberra on their home track recently.
At the meeting sportsman light class race drivers kept up an “awe-inspiring” display of power racing, precision driving and clever manoeuvring in all four heats and the final.
In the rookie class Ryan Johnson, the youngest racer at the event, was first.
The junior national light class Jack Loftus finished first ahead of Christopher Cooper and Joshua Hemphill.
Christopher Anthony, a highly competitive and experienced driver, was undefeated in the junior national heavy class.
He was followed home by Dylan Peters and Brodie Duncan-Lund.
In the sportsman light class, Mitchell Gatenby overcame the loss of a chain in one of his heats and a retirement to claim top spot, with Clifton Young in second and Gavin Owens third.
The next big outing for the Sapphire Kart Club is the Bega Cup, the major event on their calendar.
The cup meeting will be held on November 5, from 1pm, and on November 6 from 9am.
The canteen will be open and spectators are admitted free.
