EXCITEMENT is mounting for Lismore Kart Club officials as they prepare for a long-awaited bonanza of high-speed action.
More than 100 competitors from across the state and the Australian Capital Territory will be in action at the New South Wales Closed State Titles.
The event, which is taking place at the club’s Tweed St grounds, is one of the biggest events on the state’s calendar.
Club president Diana Smith said it had been a long wait to bring the event to the city, but she was anticipating a memorable competition.
“This will be the first time we have hosted this competition in more than 20 years,” she said.
“We heard we had been awarded the event about two years ago- it’s been a long two years.
“We are really looking forward to it.”
Entrants from as far as Canberra have entered the four-day titles, which starts tomorrow and will feature races in various classes.
Seniors will mostly be in action, but there will be categories for juniors as well.
The tournament starts with official practice on day one, before qualifying and initial races launch on Friday.
Saturday will see more races before finals finish the event on Sunday morning.
Smith said there should be some eye-catching action on display.
“The standard should be really high,” she said.
“The drivers will all be chasing the chance to win a Plate.
“It is also a good chance for our local drivers to show that Lismore is right up there in terms of (racing) quality.”
Action starts at 9.30am on Friday and about 8.30am on Saturday and Sunday.
Admission is free and all spectators are welcome.
