Karters go the distance in East Coast over-40s titles – From the Coffs Advocate

IF THE roar of engines and smell of petrol gets you worked up, the Coffs Coast sport and Leisure Park was the place to be last weekend.

The Geoff King Motors East Coast over-40s go-kart titles got underway in typical fashion last weekend as the best over-40-year-old drivers converged on Coffs to battle it out.

More than 200 participants from around Australia came to Coffs to burn rubber at the park and it sure didn’t disappoint, even if the rain had a little to say about it on Saturday afternoon.

Coffs Harbour Kart Racing Club president, Troy Brown said the event couldn’t have turned out better.

“It was a brilliant day, absolutely fantastic. I even heard one person say it was the best one ever,” he said.

“We’ve had a great response from everyone who attended.

“The participants consisted of all the over-40s from all around Australia to compete here.”

While the weekend saw its fill of action, Brown was confident the competition would return next year after worries that karting clubs around Australia were ill equipped to handle the event on their own.

“It’s in its 19th running and in its 18th year, we’re the only one in Australia that actually do it,” he said.

“From here on in the event will always be at Coffs. Other clubs around Australia have tried to put it on, but here is just the ideal environment”.
