PRE-FINALS COMPLETE AT THE SOUTH AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

The pre-finals are underway at the 2013 South Australian Championships being hosted by the Southern Go-Kart Club at the Bolivar Raceway.

RESULTS: Pre-Final

Cadets
1. Jack Harders
2. Mason Patience
3. Damon Papasergio
4. Blake Purdie

Race Notes: The Western Australian pair of Damon Papasergio and Mason Patience led the way during the opening laps of the Cadets pre-final. Behind them, a number of contenders were caught up in an opening corner fracas. As the race continued, seven contenders ran within close proximity near the front of the field. Following numerous changes in position, it was Jack Harders who crossed the line first.

Junior Clubman
1. William Hawkes
2. Jordi Marcon
3. Thomas Maxwell
4. Spencer Ackerman

Race Notes: Several competitors got caught up in a scuffle as the the Junior Clubman raced into turn one, including front row starter Harry Hayek, Holly Marquis and Luis Leeds. Emerging from the chaos as the leader was Arrow karts driver William Hawkes ahead of Jordi Marcon. Hawkes was unchallenged on his way to securing pole position for tomorrow’s Championship final.

Clubman Heavy
1. David Sera
2. Remo Luciani
3. Jason Burns
4. Paul Pittam
5. Matt Davis
Race Notes: Local driver Paul Pittam stole the lead of the Clubman Heavy pre-final away from David Sera as the field raced into the opening turn. It wasn’t long however before Sera regained his usual place at the front of the field. Pittam, Leigh Nicolaou, Remo Luciani, Matt Davis and Jason Burns ran in close proximity for the minor positions. As Sera raced off into the distance, the next five drivers raced nose to tail for the majority of the 15-lap encounter.

Open Performance
1. Dominic Albanese

Race Notes: Dominic Albanese used his twin-Maxter Arrow Kart to dominate the pre-final in the Open Performance category. Behind the Victorian, who was ducking his head at every opportunity to pull away from the field, CRG driver Ben Edwards and Nicholas Holmes-Karavas, both using Formula 100 engines, were battling for the minor positions before Holmes-Karavas’ charge came to a halt mid race.

Junior National Heavy
1. Shaun Costello
2. William Hawkes
3. Braydon North
4. Aaron Cameron
5. Tyler Morrison
Race Notes: South Australian driver Tyler Morrison was unable to take full advantage of his pole position in the Junior National Heavy pre-final as Shaun Costello, William Hawkes and Aaron Cameron led the way. Costello was then able to pull away from the field as the seven karts behind him challenged each other. In the end it was a dominant win by Costello.

Clubman Super Heavy
1. Andrew Cash
2. Danny Errigo
3. Blake Mooney
4. Mason Barbera
5. Scott Simpson
Race Notes: With Mason Barbera and Scott Simpson having a DNF in the second heat race it allowed Blake Mooney and Andrew Cash to occupy the front row of the Clubman Super Heavy pre-final. Mooney leapt into the lead but it wasn’t long before Cash moved his Omega kart to the front. Danny Errigo and Barbera joined them to make it a four-way battle at the front by mid-race distance.

Clubman Over 40s
1. Remo Luciani
2. Sparky Marquis
3. Phil Smith
4. Trevor Whitby
5. Mark Dickson
Race Notes: Mr Mollydooker Sparky Marquis used his front row start to lead the field away in the Clubman Over 40s pre-final as Phil Smith slotted into second ahead of Remo Luciani. It wasn’t long before normal transmission resumed with Luciani slotting his Monaco into the lead on lap six.

Junior National Light
1. Aaron Cameron
2. Reece Sidebottom
3. Shaun Costello
4. Thomas Maxwell
5. Dylan Hollis
Race Notes: In the Junior National Light pre-final Reece Sidebottom, Shaun Costello and Dylan Hollis set the early pace. The trio were joined by Aaron Cameron, Thomas Maxwell and Oscar Piastri to make it a six-kart freight train at the front of the field just after half race distance.

Clubman Light
1. Daniel Rochford
2. Jordan Boys
3. James Sera
4. Jaie Robson
5. Andrew Mercuri
Race Notes: Front row combatants James Sera and Daniel Rochford swapped the lead during the early laps of the Clubman Light pre-final while Jordan Boys shadowed them in his Praga kart. Andrew Mercuri ran in fourth spot ahead of Jaie Robson. Nothing separated the top three for the duration of the 15-lap journey before Rochford claimed the win aboard his Monaco kart.

Leopard Heavy
1. Leigh Cocker
2. Paul Pittam
3. Mason Barbera
4. Matt Davis
5. Aaron Hindle
Race Notes: All throughout the Leopard Heavy pre-final it was a three-way battle for the lead between local boys Leigh Cocker and Paul Pittam and Bundaberg driver Mason Barbera. Western Australian Matt Davis got the better of a race-long battle with Monaco driver Aaron Hindle for the fourth position.

Rookies
1. Jordan Caruso
2. Jai Sparey
3. Cody Brewczynski
4. Jacob Dowson
5. Joshua Smith
Race Notes: Recently crowned New South Wales Champion Cody Brewczynski was the pacesetter for the opening half of the Rookies pre-final before coming under heavy pressure from Jordan Caruso with six laps remaining. The leading pair then exchanged the lead on numerous occasions over the final two laps, which allowed the drivers behind them to come into the equation, before Caruso crossed the line in front.

Junior Rotax
1. Zane Morse
2. Cody Gillis
3. Scott Matheson
4. Brodie Cook
5. Jack Black
Race Notes: The Tony Kart pair of Zane Morse and Cody Gillis led the way in the Junior Rotax pre-final while local Formula K driver Scott Matheson moved his way into third place. Matheson closed in on the closing stages, but was unable to stop the Tony Kart quinella.

Leopard Light
1. James Sera
2. Andrew Mercuri
3. James Allen
4. Josh Tynan
5. Josh Smith
Race Notes: There was drama before the start of the Leopard Light pre-final with polesitter Andrew Mercuri’s engine failing to accelerate off the start line causing karts to spear in all directions. However, luck was on Mercuri’s side with the reform flag being displayed which allowed him to change his spark plug. On the opening lap, a four kart pile-up resulted in Kris Trotter going upside down. As the chaos reigned behind him Mercuri led James Sera and James Allen. Sera then relieved Mercuri of the lead just after half race distance before cruising to victory.
