Young karter proving his skills with top performances - From the Daily Mercury

Riley LeGarde leads the pack on the track at the Mackay Kart Club meeting.

RILEY LeGarde is only 10, but he’s already an experienced driver.

LeGarde has been karting for three years, and has competed at many tracks around Australia.

“I won the Whitsundays title last year and competed against the best in Australia at the Gold Coast in October, where I came fourth,” he said.

“I race most weekends, and every month at the Mackay club.

“We have a trailer for the karts, and I’m supported by Pro Ject X, Subway and Transit Tyres.”

LeGarde was back in action at the Mackay Kart Club meeting in the Cadet class, winning all four races before travelling north to Proserpine where he also won.

Cohen Ogilvie did the same in Junior National Light, clean sweeping the races in Mackay and finishing on the top step in Proserpine.

Both drivers will be in with a chance at the state titles at Proserpine on July 11-13.

Brett Cruickshanks made it look easy in the Sportsman Super Heavy despite difficult conditions as showers started.

He had to keep his kart on the drying line at all times so as not to slip off the track, as did Doug Penningh who couldn’t make up the gap.

Third in class was Adam Nicolls, down from Townsville for the weekend.

The club’s Sugar City titles will be held on March 15-16.
