Wimmera karters race in Vic Country Series at Dooen – From the Wimmera Mail Times
WIMMERA Kart Club’s Leon Forrest took out the clubman over 40 title at round three of the Victoria Country Series at Dooen Recreation Reserve on Sunday.
He was the best performing Wimmera Kart Club member.
Club president Mark Cottrell was third in the clubman over 40 class.
Wimmera had a number of competitors among the 130-plus strong field.
Brayden Souter finished second in the rookies class, with Alex Baker fourth.
Jacob Heard was fourth in the clubman heavy class and Travis Shanaughan third in the sportsman restricted light category.
Ashley Lear was seventh in the clubman light section with Brady Newcombe 12.
In the junior national heavy class, Tyler Newcombe placed 17th and in the cadets category Trent Sanders was 16th and Corey Marshall 17th.
Paige Sanders was 11th in the junior national light class and Sophie Heard 13th.
Wimmera Kart Club club member and spokesman Shane Souter said the host club was thrilled with its members’ efforts.
“After only three competitive races, Travis Shanaughan found himself on the podium in sportsman restricted light,” he said.
“It was a fantastic result for both young Wimmera kart members Brayden Souter and Alex Baker in a large field of rookies.
“Brayden finished second after a hard fought weekend along with Baker finishing fourth in his first race meeting after moving from cadets.
“Newcomers to cadets Corey Marshall and Trent Sanders took their friendship from schoolyard to the track, putting in a great effort for the weekend.
“Leon Forrest and Mark Cottrell dominated clubman over 40 at their local track taking out first and third and Jake Heard’s new chassis found him up towards the front in clubmen heavy.
“Ashley Lear had a hard fought battle fighting his way through the field in clubman light after poor grid positions to finish seventh.”
