V8 SUPERCAR DRIVERS SET FOR RACE OF STARS SHOOTOUT

Volvo Polestar Racing's Scott McLaughlin will be in action at the Race of Stars on the Gold Coast tomorrow.

Volvo Polestar Racing’s Scott McLaughlin will be in action at the Race of Stars on the Gold Coast this Saturday.

V8 Supercar drivers Scott McLaughlin and Tim Slade are getting set for a Shootout at the Race of Stars powered by SuperFest on the Gold Coast this Saturday.

McLaughlin, who alongside Alex Premat steered his Volvo Polestar Racing entry to fifth place at last weekend’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, is keen to put on a show for the racefans at the Xtreme Karting Complex.

“I’m keen as to get in my kart this weekend and cut some laps at the Race of Stars,” said McLaughlin.

“I’ve always loved karting and I’m probably in a kart just as much these days as when I was racing them in my younger years. It’s a great way to stay in shape in between V8 races.”

McLaughlin will also be getting his hands dirty across the weekend as mechanic for leading KZ2 driver Kel Treseder.

“Karting is the purest form or motorsport, there are no politics and other associated mind games. It’s all about the racing and the passion,” said McLaughlin.

“I have a great time being a part of the karting scene. It’s a great way to enjoy my weekend with a top bunch of guys.

“Normally it’s the boys in my team who are getting their hands dirty and working on my Volvo V8 Supercar, this weekend it is me on a kart and I’m having a great time.”

Tim Slade is excited about tackling Australia’s fastest karting circuit

Just like all of his V8 Supercar counterparts Slade spent much of his formative years at karting tracks around the country and the Supercheap Auto Racing pilot is excited about tackling Australia’s fastest karting circuit tomorrow.

“I was at the Race of Stars last year and it was just awesome,” said Slade.

“To see the world’s best drivers in action here in Australia is something that we dreamt of when I was racing karts. I never got to race in Europe during my karting days, so to be able to see guys like World Champion Davide Forè in full flight here in Australia is great.

“I’m really looking forward to getting behind the wheel myself in the shootout to tackle the challenging circuit.”

The pair will be joined throughout the day by several of their V8 counterparts who will be trackside at the Race of Stars powered by SuperFest.

The event will begin this with practice, qualifying and the opening races before continuing from 9:00am on tomorrow.

The Xtreme Karting Facility is located on Pimpama-Jacobs Well Road, Pimpama – exit 49 off the M1. Admission is free for spectators.
