TRI-15-10 - Class Rules - New Engines For Use in 2015

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FULL TECHNICAL RULE INTERPRETATION

Background

The 2015 Australian Karting Manual and Rules come into effect on 1 January.

The Manual details Class Rules for the following new sprint kart competition engines:
– Vortex Mini Rok 60cc
– IAME KA100
– PRD Galaxy
– Rotax Micro Max
– Rotax Mini Max

Current Position
HOMOLOGATED ENGINES – ELIGIBLE FOR USE
The Vortex Mini Rok, IAME KA100 and PRD Galaxy engines have all passed homologation.

The relevant homologation papers have been available on the Karting Australia web site at this address for some time: https://www.karting.net.au/administration/technical

Vortex Mini Rok, IAME KA100 and PRD Galaxy engines that comply in full with the relevant homologation and the Class Rules contained in the Manual will be permitted for use on KA Circuits from 1 January in accordance with the Rules.

ROTAX MICRO MAX AND MINI MAX ENGINES – NOT CURRENTLY ELIGIBLE FOR USE
IKD – the importer of Rotax engines has not at this time submitted engines or homologation forms for consideration by Karting Australia. We understand that this has been delayed as a result of the announcement of the EVO engines by BRP Rotax in November.

IKD have advised us that homologation samples of the Micro Max and the Mini Max engines have been shipped from BRP Rotax and will be available to us in January for the purpose of homologation and evaluation.

Until such time as that process has been completed there are no Rotax Micro Max or Rotax Mini Max engines that comply with our rules (that require homologation to have been completed). Accordingly no Rotax Micro Max or Mini Max engines are permitted to be used on any Karting Australia licensed race tracks at this time and until the homologation process is complete.

No homologation or evaluation of the full range of Rotax EVO engines has been undertaken at this time and similarly no Rotax EVO engines are permitted to be used on Karting Australia licensed race tracks at this time.
