Competing in the Pro Junior category Abela finished fifth in the final, which was enough to seem him rise to the top of the championship points ladder with one round left.

The young Horsley Park driver performed well in qualifying on the Saturday with two second places and a third to secure the top spot in Sunday’s opening final, which he won.

Abela’s performance was even more remarkable given he was competing for the first time aboard a Redspeed chassis.
