Sheerans rides away with title - From the Townsville Bulletin

JARVA Sheerans survived a furious final round to clinch the Townsville Kart Club junior national light championship on Saturday.

While the teenager finished the five- race meet at Suncity Raceway in third, coming in behind Zacc Pattel ( first) and Luke Grasso ( second), he accumulated enough points to hold off nearest challenger, Grasso, for the title.

The trio had one of the afternoon’s more absorbing battles across the eight divisions contested.

Each won a race, while in the final the lead changed on almost every lap and all three were first at some point.

Pattel hung on and, in the process, won the meet.

Grasso was also involved in an epic duel in the junior national heavy class, but this time he came out on top. Again it came down to the last race as he and Corey Ainge battled for the meet victory.

Ainge had the better of the race early, leading the first nine laps, but with less than a few thousandths of a second separating them, Grasso made his move at the mid- point of the race and held on grimly, with Brent Blakey finishing third.
