SATURDAY NOTEBOOK FROM THE VICTORIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Another one, 18 bite the dust
The Clubman Light category is well known to be action packed but the 36 competitors this weekend provided a little more action than anticipated during heat one this morning.

A spin entering the opening turn by Macauley Jones appeared to ignite a chain reaction and as a consequence half the field were left to watch from the sidelines.

Later in the day the Junior National Heavy field tried to emulate their older competitors with ten karts coming to a stop in turn one of the pre-final.

Number 45 – in more ways than one
CRG driver Jason Hryniuk is well-known for his number 45, however, this year his number appears to have more meaning than just a race number.

Of the three events Hryniuk has entered so far in 2011, which so far equates to a total of 12 races, the three-time Australian champion has only finished 45% of his races. Hopefully his luck will change tomorrow for the finals at the Victorian Championships.

Sera boys sharing the wins
The Clubman and Leopard Light categories appear to being shared between David and James Sera.

After James set the pace during qualifying in both categories yesterday, the pair shared the wins during today’s racing. The pair won all of the nine races that they competed in, David won all three in Rotax Light, two in Leopard Light while James won all three in Clubman Light and one in Leopard Light.

“He’s running three classes, so he’s got an advantage – when you look at the head to head I’m ahead,” said James.
