Racing action comes to Grenfell - From the Grenfell Record

All the action from the Bogolong Kart Track at a Race Meet last month. Grenfell Kart Club are thrilled to be hosting the NSW State Championships this October Long Weekend.

Grenfell Kart Club and the Bogolong Raceway has been chosen by Karting NSW to host the 2014 NSW State Championships on the October long weekend.

The NSW Championships is one of the biggest and most prestigious events on the National karting calendar. It will see over 300 of the country’s best karters take on the challenging Bogolong circuit to see who will be crowned the states champion in the thirteen different classes contested and get the opportunity to display the prized blue number plate on their kart for the 2014/15 season.

Along with the competitors will be a large contingent of support crew, family, friends, spectators, photographers, and officials that all go to make up this karting spectacle rarely seen outside of a major centre.

This will also boost racing numbers for the clubs normal club race meetings as well as the other major race meetings such as Round 3 of the NSW Southern Star Series on 24/25 May, the State Championships Shakedown meeting on 6/7 September and of course the Grenfell Kart Clubs premier event the annual Bob Hinde Memorial on 28/29 June.

The Bob Hinde Memorial is already one of the best attended and most popular race meetings in the state and with the added interest this year will see the event swell to record numbers.

With the extra race meetings scheduled for the Bogolong track this year as well as the dramatic increase in visitors the clubs resources and town’s accommodation will be stretched. So the Grenfell Kart Club is calling for support from the community to ensure that all of the visitors expected into town will be accommodated and made feel welcome as only a country town can.

So if you are willing to assist and/or can help in any way or provide accommodation then the club would love to hear from you.

We are looking for anyone who has a granny flat, a spare room, an empty house or even a caravan that would be prepared to make it available for the championships or any of the lead up events.

We are after volunteers to help with the track preparations, canteen and catering assistants, ground attendants for car parking, pit allocation, toilet attendants etc, race officials such as flag marshals, grid marshals, lap scorers. Race experience is not necessary.

What next?

The Kart Club will be conducting an open meeting at the Grenfell Bowling Club on Wednesday 5th February starting at 7.30pm to compile a list of volunteers and or accommodation prospects.

If you would like to be a part of this event or any of the lead up events we would love to see you there.

Alternatively if you have something to offer and cannot make the meeting your details can be forwarded to Auburn Carr on 63432855 or Claire Myers on 63432059 or Cathie Logan on 0457 384 790 or any of the clubs contacts atwww.grenfellkartclub.org.au.
