ORANGE Kart Club drivers dominated last weekend’s Super Heavy Challenge at Perc Griffith Way, with nine podium finishes.

The innovative format has a unique classification system, which takes the driver’s weight into account, unlike other events like national and state titles.

With growing popularity state-wide, Orange drivers thrived in the new format which Orange Kart Club vice-president Col Jones said “caters to heavier drivers”.

In particular the Dickson brothers, Kurtis and Brent, enjoyed a fruitful weekend taking home three podium finishes between them.

Kurtis won the Senior National Super Heavy division, with Brent finishing third. The former also finished third in the Clubman Super Heavy category, and fourth in the Tag 125 Super Heavy.

Of Orange’s other place-getters, Adam Reilly won the Clubman Super Heavy, David Dunbar won the Senior National Combined, James Keene took out the Junior National Super Heavy, Ben Churchland came second in the Senior National Super Heavy, Charles McLandsborough was runner-up in the Rookies and Henry McLandsborough finished second in the Cadets.

“The standard of racing was very high,” Jones said.

“We had drivers from all over the place, and had a national champion racing. All the local drivers drove well, and we picked up a couple of placings. It was a great way to give the heavier drivers a chance, they don’t get as much racing as the other divisions. Normally events only cater for light and heavy divisions.”

Seventy-one drivers from all over the eastern seaboard attended, and Jones said the event was a undeniable success.

“It was a fantastic weekend,” Jones said.

“We’ve received nothing but good feedback, everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.”
