National Champions David Sera, Joseph Mawson and James Sera will start from pole position for tomorrow’s finals at the Victorian Karting Championships at Port Melbourne.

Sera will be gunning for the third straight Victorian title in the Rotax Light category when he lines up alongside his Arrow Karts team-mate Luke Rochford.

Also competing in the Clubman Light and Leopard Light categories Sera has been kept busy throughout the weekend. He will also start from pole position in Leopard Light and second in Clubman Light.

“It’s a very busy weekend racing three classes, so be starting inside the top two in both classes is good way to be going into the finals tomorrow,” said Sera.

“James and I are having some good battles in the Clubman and Leopard classes, we’ll both be gunning for the bragging rights tomorrow.”

Mawson, who won the Junior Clubman Australian Championship last year at Puckapunyal, will start on pole position with local driver Liam Morey on the outside of the front row as he chases his 11th state championship.

The Sydneysider will also line up from the number one spot for the final in the Junior Max category after a late race charge saw him pass Liam Morey and Pierce Lehane.

“In the end it has been an awesome day,” said Mawson, who won the first state championship of his career at the venue in 2006.

“I had an engine issue in heat two of Junior Rotax which cost me the win and meant I started from fifth in the pre-final, so I had to really fight my way to the front.

“There are a number of quick guys in both classes, so it will be tough to stay ahead of them during the longer finals tomorrow.

Last year’s runner-up Anton de Pasquale will start from third position on the grid for tomorrow’s final in the Junior Clubman class with Kalgoorlie’s Anthony Martin alongside of him.

After qualifying fastest for both of the Clubman Light and Leopard Light categories yesterday, James Sera continued his good run of form to secure pole position in Clubman Light ahead of his cousin David.
