Lovasi causes karts shock - From the Townsville Bulletin

TIM Lovasi’s confidence is booming ahead of taking a step toward making motorsports his career.

In his last Townsville Kart Club meet before heading south to learn what it takes to be a V8 Supercars driver or pit crew, Lovasi sprung an upset by winning a thrilling opening round of the season in the Sportsman Light 125cc category at Sun City Raceway yesterday.

Lovasi held off fast- finishing defending series champion Luke Flynn by 0.175 secs.

It was by far the most exciting final of the weekend, with Flynn making up more than 20kart lengths after getting caught up in early traffic during the 16- lap final.

But it proved to be futile as Flynn fell just short of a stunning come- from- behind win.

“It was spectacular,” club spokesman and fellow competitor Glen Stewart said.

“The best racing of the entire weekend was that whole category. After Tim made a bit of a break, Luke had to try and run him down and as the race went on he was constantly gaining.

“By the last lap ( Flynn) was right on his tail, but didn’t have enough to get past.”

Lovasi is one of two Townsville Kart Club members who will attend a driver development TAFE course in Brisbane for aspiring professional drivers or pit crew members. He may return for one- off events.

Other winners: Jayson Eves ( cadets); Raith Sheerans ( rookies); Luke Jones ( sportsman heavy); Brett Hehir ( sportsman super heavy); Nathan Granata ( junior national heavy); George Poltorasky ( Tag 100); Zac Pattel ( junior national lights).
