LICENCE FIGURES AND PARTICIPATION RATES INCREASE DURING 2012

The Australian Karting Association can confirm an increase of almost ten percent in licenced drivers during the past 12 months with a total of 7717 members as at December 31, 2012.

This increase of 9.48% represents a total of 668 more licenced drivers across the country.

The Queensland Association experienced the largest increase of members with a 16.5% in its membership base during the 12 month period. Both New South Wales (11.9%) and Western Australia (11.5%) also experienced double figure increases in licence holders.

Northern Territory (6.7%) benefited from holding the National Championships with a slight increase in licence holders while Victoria also enjoyed an increase, although the majority of that state’s six-percent increase came from practice licence holders.

South Australia and Tasmania both experienced slight decreases in their membership base with a drop of 7.1% and 5.3% respectively.

In terms of participation, there was also an increase – this time of 5.52%, which equates to 2,452 more competitors taking to the circuit across the country during 2012 compared to the 12 months prior.

It’s no surprise to see the Northern Territory experience a significant increase (42%) in participation given the National Championships being held in the Top End.

All States, with the exception of Tasmania (-25.98%) and Western Australia (-1.07%), enjoyed an increase of participation over the 12-month period.
