LEHANE UP THE FRONT IN LA CONCA

Pierce Lehane returning after one of his heat races at La Conca

CIK Stars of Karting Series Pro Junior (KF3) Champion Pierce Lehane is among the front-runners following the opening three of four heat races in the WSK Nations Cup at La Conca in Italy overnight.

After setting the fifth fastest time in his group of qualifying yesterday Lehane was due to line up on the second row for each of his heat races. However, an engine issue prior to the opening heat meant that he wasn’t able to start in his correct spot – despite this issue he charged his way to eighth at the finish.

Lehane led the way in the second 8-lap race for a few circulations but was passed on the final corner by Tony Kart driver Ippolito Paolo for the win. Another strong run in the third heat, in which he set the second fastest lap, saw him cross the line in fourth place.

Also competing at the event is Kyle Ensbey in the KZ2 category. After gambling on slick tyres in drying conditions during qualifying the Sunshine Coast racer qualified 30th before failing to finish the opening heat race.

Ensbey’s second heat saw a better performance as he moved to 21st place.

One further heat race will be contested this evening (Australian time) ahead of the pre-final and final.
