Karting mission for Heart Kids - From the Daily Mercury

WHITSUNDAY teenager Georgie Nowell will be travelling to the Combined Districts Kart Club’s Lithgow Raceway in NSW this weekend to compete in the eighth annual ladies race meeting.

It is the only karting event exclusively for women and girls in the country, and helps to raise much-needed funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

As a member of the Whitsunday Motosports Club, Georgie has also been on a fundraising mission of her own since she started racing karts competitively last year.

She is the big sister to nine-year-old Heart Kid Ella Nowell, who was born with a congenital heart condition and has been in and out of hospitals all her life.

“I know what it feels like for not just the child but the families, as I have watched my sister go through three open heart surgeries and several other cardiac procedures,” the 15-year-old said.

“Many people are unaware of the Heart Kids foundation, which not only helps to raise awareness for congenital heart disease, but also helps families with sick babies and children.”

So Georgie decided to combine her love of karting with a passion for raising funds and awareness for Heart Kids Australia.

She will be debuting her newly-designed 2014 Heart Kids kart and racing gear this weekend at Lithgow where she will race with more than 100 female kart drivers from across the country.

Georgie raised $2380 for the foundation last year, and is now hoping to raise $2500 in the first six months of 2014.
