KARTING AUSTRALIA ON THE FORMULA ONE GRID IN MELBOURNE TODAY

Karting Australia will have 20 young representatives on the grid ahead of this afternoon’s Formula One Rolex Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.

Each of the aspiring young drivers, who will be competing in the opening round of the Australian Kart Championship in Melbourne on April 3-5, will be the official flag bearers for the drivers on the Formula One grid.

Fresh off a second place finish in the WSK Gold Cup in Italy two weeks ago Lochie Hughes will be flying the Australian flag for Red Bull Racing’s Daniel Ricciardo.  Hughes’ fellow KF3 combatants in the Australian Kart Championship Cooper Murray and Josh Denton will fly the English and German flags for the front row pair of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

All of the Formula One drivers on the grid in this afternoon’s race started their careers in karting with Daniel Ricciardo winning an Australian Karting Championship in 2005.

The pre-race entertainment begins at 3pm AEDT with the Formula One Rolex Australian Grand Prix scheduled for a 4pm start.
