KARTING AUSTRALIA 2014 ANNUAL REPORT

Karting Australia’s 2014 Annual Report is now available.

This report incorporates the first full year of activities of the Association now structured as a Company Limited by Guarantee.

Last year, the Board of Directors reported on the many changes that had been made to the structure of karting’s governing body to transition the business of the sport of karting, the sporting side of the business of karting and to lay the best foundations for the Association.

The 53-page 2014 Annual Report outlines the progress made in both the business and sporting aspects of Australian karting following the implementation of these changes.

Karting Australia Chairman Mick Doohan believes while significant progress has already been made, the Association is at the start of a ‘long and exciting journey.’

“As a Board, we are now more certain than ever before that the wisdom of the State Associations back in 2012 to make the hardest decision of all, of installing a fully independent Board possessed of willingness, energy, skill and commitment to effect the changes that the sport of karting has long cried out for, will see karting in Australia modernised and developed to grow to previously unimagined levels,” said Doohan.

“We are all at the start of a long and exciting journey, a journey to reinvigorate the sport of karting.

“In addition to implementing effective governance processes, our first priority as a Board and administration has been to establish the financial stability and viability of Karting Australia. We have begun to achieve that financial security through an improved structure and business practices.

“In the longer term, this stability will enable us to develop and implement programs that will be designed to enhance the profile of the sport, improve the popularity of karting, assist Clubs to grow their membership bases, attract new participants and further develop the competition and safety 1st approach required in all motorsport categories.”

In 2014 licence rates increased marginally by 3.4% (248 licences) over 2013.

Doohan believes this stability in licence numbers across the country is a healthy indicator for the sport and a sign of things to come as Karting Australia builds on the platform that has been developed for the new look of the sport.

“In the year just passed we have laid the corner stone of the new look and reinvigorated Karting Australia. There is much to be done but be assured that the Karting Australia Board has a unified determination to make sure that everything that needs to be done for karting to become fully reinvigorated is done,” said Doohan.

“We look forward to our stakeholders joining with us and contributing to what is truly a very exciting future for the sport.”
