A CLUB meeting on home turf on Saturday was a welcome change for Gladstone Kart Club members after a busy few weeks travelling to the Whitsundays, Emerald and Bundaberg.

While in Bundaberg last weekend for the fourth and final round of the Go Kart CQ Series, the club was awarded the club trophy for the second year in a row.

Club publicity officer David Bennett said Gladstone karters put in a “fantastic effort” to win six of the 10 classes and place second in seven classes.

Gladstone (1050 points) doubled the points of Emerald (517 points) in second place, with Bundaberg in third (348 points) and Rockhampton in fourth (199 points) position.

The club points score was dominated by two race teams – Two 4 Tuning and Team Grand Racing.

Bennett said Ken Prichard and Jack Bussey deserved special mention for standout performances.

Club stalwart Prichard has gone back into retirement after winning the Tag 100 class for the series.

Bussey won both the Junior National Light and Junior National Heavy classes.

The young star continued his impressive streak on Saturday, stealing the limelight with fellow junior Mitch Bennett.

The pair were bumper to bumper all day, crossing the finish line within 0.01seconds of one another in the third race. They won two races each and Bussey won the day on a countback.

Bradley Fleetwood also had a stellar day at the club meet, winning the Tag Restricted Heavy class and placing second in the Tag 100.
