Karting action at Monarto

GO-KARTING: This weekend sees sprint karting return to the impressive Monarto complex for the second round of the 2014 Festival State series.

Around 150 competitors from the age of seven through to 50 will be racing over 14 classes to compete in the State series which comprises five rounds throughout the year.

Karts reach speeds of up to 100-kilometres per hour with 125cc engines producing around 30 horsepower.

Close racing is always guaranteed with numerous Australian title holders competing such as Paul Pittam (seniors) and Josh Denton (juniors) who both won green plates at this facility in 2012 when Monarto hosted the 51st Australian Sprint Kart Championships.

The Monarto Karting Complex has only been open for seven years and continues to grow and become one of the premier karting facilities in Australia having already hosted two State titles and the nationals in 2012.

Go Kart Club of SA president Peter Fritz said the new committee was continuing to develop the facilities.

“We are doing more infrastructural developments to the canteen, with a new bar and viewing area, and revamping the kitchen facilities,” he said.

“Our goal to develop a world class karting facility second to none.

Monarto is also to host the 2014 Dunlop SA Sprint Kart Championship.

Originally allocated to run in November, negotiations began earlier this year to relocate the date to utilise the track when its surroundings are at their best. The club and State was successful in securing August 22-24 for the event and expect more than 200 competitors to travel to the region for this event.

-Details: Racing starts from 9am on Sunday with free entry to spectators and canteen facilities available.

The Monarto Karting Complex is located at 3711 Old Princes Highway, Monarto.
