Joey Mawson Day 2 Diary from Bahrain

Qualifying – 12th Overall
Put in some good Flying laps early but got caught in track on my last 3 laps. I ended up 5th in my group and 12th overall!

Heat 1 – 2nd
Got a great start into turn 1 getting into 3rd then passing two people into the hairpin to grab 1st. I kept the lead from there until a few laps left where I got put back to 2nd then to 3rd. I was 3rd coming into the last lap and got 2nd into turn 4 and held it to the flag.

Heat 2 – 1st
Got a good start again into 3rd, and grabbed 2nd at turn 4. I stayed behind the leader till 6 laps to go as I wanted to get away from everyone else and wait to have a good oppurtunity to overtake without loosing time. I held the lead until the chequered flag and got a gap on the last lap due to a battle behind me.

Heat 3 – 5th
This was the two quickest group versing so as expected there was carnage and a crazy race going on. Nearly got spun at turn 1 on the start and went back to 7th. Worked my way to 3rd at one stage but got shuffled back to 4th and the kart went off with 4 laps left. On the last lap with 2 corners left 2nd & 3rd came together and I had no where to go and hit them, and dropped back to 5th.

Heat 4 – 1st
Got into 4th at the start and 3rd after turn 6. Caught up to my teammate and passed him. And caught the leader. I then passed him with 6 laps to go and didn’t have the pace to pull away. Hubert passed me when 2 laps left and I passed him back 2 corners later. My team mate followed me through and it gave me a gap for the last lap.
Very happy with the heat results. Had good pace but still need to find more to be able to break away. The slipstream is big here, and very had to break away. Will be starting 2nd for Prefinal 1 and 33rd for Prefinal 2.
