Karter Jason Faint raced in the European Championships recently.

COMING back into a sport after a lengthy absence and performing is a daunting task, yet Gladstone driver Jason Faint exceeded all expectations when he took to the track in Germany last weekend.

Competing in the CIK-FIA European KZ2 Championship at the Prokart Raceland track against 96 of the best kart drivers in the world, only two years back into karting, Faint began the weekend slowly when he qualified 71st.

The 29-year-old then proved himself across the remainder of the weekend, showing experience that he gained from travelling to Europe twice last year.

“From where I qualified to where I was up to in the pre-final, it leaves me with a fair bit of mixed emotions,” Faint said.

“I’ve learnt a lot more this weekend than any other race I’ve competed in.”

Faint finished 31st in his final race after a crash bent his axle while he was ready to push inside the top 20.

With backing from the Energy Corse team, who are well known for running the Lotus Formula 1 Junior Team, a return to Europe for the Belgian round of the series in late June is the next overseas challenge that awaits Faint.

But before he gets his chance to accelerate to the front of an international field, the CIK Stars of Karting championship resumes in Geelong in mid-June.

Having had mixed results in the first two rounds of the series, Faint is looking to improve on his 13th place standing and gain confidence before again making the flight to Europe.
