IKD Announce new Media Partner for Rotax Pro Tour

International Karting Distributors (IKD) are delighted to announce that they have secured the services of Ian Salvestrin to act as Media Liaison and Official Course Commentator for the remaining three events of the 2011 Rotax Pro Tour & the Rotax Nationals, commencing with the Port Macquarie event this weekend.

Salvestrin has been in karting since starting as a junior driver in country NSW in 1992. He then went on to establish the hugely popular KartOz Magazine in 1996 and additionally also helped take the (former) CIK Championships from virtual obscurity to promoting it as one of the most prominent Australian Motorsport series in the late 1990’s. During this time, Ian was also able to race at a high level, culminating with a career highlight 3rd place at the Malaysian Kart Grand Prix in Formula A at Sepang in 2001.

These days, Salvestrin can still be seen at various events, including conducting Media and Course Commentary for the Vortex ROK World Finals in 2009 at Garda in Italy and with no clashing Pro Tour events in 2011, will head back over for that race again this October.

But now the firm focus is “The fantastic Rotax Pro Tour,” says Salvestrin. “I am delighted to be joining the team at IKD for the Pro Tour and look forward to escaping the Melbourne weather to be in beautiful Port Macquarie this weekend. The Pro Tour is now firmly entrenched in the national karting scene and it is fantastic to see that with the combination of the Rotax Pro Tour and the CIK Stars of Karting Series, Australia now has 10 truly professional karting events. As Australians’ we can hold our heads high with not only the level of competition on track but also the increased professionalism of the sport which has materialized in the last decade. There is still room for the Pro Tour to grow even further – just look at the DD2 class; 28 drivers on the grid in Dubbo and still growing stronger. I’ll be giving it my best to see that the Rotax Pro Tour continues to provide fantastic events for Rotax racers years to come,” concluded Salvestrin.
