Go karts return to the track - From the Whyalla News

Racing returns to the Whyalla Kart Club this weekend, with the make up round from February.

There are several drivers making their debuts in karting and this will make it interesting, having some P plate drivers in the mix of experienced racers.

A couple of drivers are coming off a big round in April and are wanting to prove the speed held in that meeting was not a fluke.

So the gloves will be off for some close tight racing, some fields expected to be the largest of the year.

Twenty-nine drivers have entered for the event, cadets sporting six entries, sportsman SA and 125 restricted/clubman light both with seven entries.

This may not sound like a lot, but the parity of the engines and the comparable level of skill amongst the drivers is all pointing towards to some exciting racing.

Seeing the Whyalla City Titles are only a few weeks away, all drivers will be working hard to shake out the gremlins and ensure their karts are starting to be where they need to be for the event.

It is also an opportunity for local and out of town drivers to get some much needed endorsements, to remove their P plates and start from the front of the grid.

The Whyalla Kart Club’s band of volunteers has been working hard every weekend to renovate the canteen facilities.

So come along and enjoy some great food and a drink.

Feel free to wander the pit area and talk to drivers and look at their karts.

Gates open at 10am for practice, racing starting after drivers’ briefing at 12.30pm.
