Australians Kyle Ensbey and Ricky Capo had a challenging time during qualifying day at the KZ2 World Cup in Sarno, Italy.

Both drivers improved their practice during the final three practice sessions before qualifying with the Ensbey posting the 51st fastest time in the 107 driver field while Capo was 82nd.

Unfortunately the pair were unable to make further improvements during qualifying and as a result they set the 73rd and 85th fastest time.

The pair then contested the opening heat race of the day with the focus of moving up the order, unfortunately for Ensbey his race ended early following an incident with another competitor.  Capo kept clear of trouble to cross the line in 27th position.

“We struggled dramatically during qualifying and the heat race due to our carburation tuning being almost identical to what it is at Todd Road at home in Australia – which was a a mistake by one of our mechanics,” said Capo.

“At a track with so much grip, such a long track and so much heat, it’s always a big challenge to get the tuning right.

“I’m looking forward to competing over the weekend and I’m enjoying the racing and the experience.”

For Ensbey, he was philosophical about the day.

“I improved my time in the final practice session to do the best time I had all weekend, it’s very close and a tenth or two would put me up about 20 spots,” said Ensbey.

“In my heat race, I was just starting to get into a rhythm and found that three into one doesn’t really go.  It’s now time to focus on moving forward tomorrow.”
