Day 4 at La Conca - Macken Team Australia

Bonjorno to all,

Well, what a difference a day makes….. after a night of no sleep by most of the team running through all the what ifs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A new engine fitted to our Kart for the warm up and vindication at last, James was second fastest (third was 8 tenths slower – in go karting terms that is daylight – a huge gap).

We can’t explain how much of a relief it was to finally show that we have the goods.

After warm up there were two races/heats today, because of our poor engine performance we qualified way back in 47th position overall – scary stuff.

We started our first race on the 12th row of the grid in position 23 – such a long way back but to his credit James drove the wheels off the kart fighting his way through the pack and finishing 7th – there was a huge crash on the first corner and James navigated through like a true pro – sensational to watch.

The second race of the day James started out of position 24 on the outside of the 12th row of the grid a very dangerous place to be! Once again James manoeuvred his kart into the inside and up to 5th position but with two laps to go a slower kart died on the track on the race line and was abandoned which caused a huge pile up in front.

James clipped the abandoned kart sending us off the track, we thought he was finished!!!!!!!! James managed to get back on track and bought his kart home to finish 13th, a great job.

What a day for us, the adrenaline and excitement were palpable all day. We just need another good finish in our one and only race tomorrow morning to set us up for a good position for the pre final on Sunday.

We have been privileged to have helping us with mechanical set up and mentoring for James , Scotty Auld who’s own karting history includes a 2nd in the Rotax World Finals 2001 Malaysia and also Ben George, World Champion DD2 2006, both are good family friends and we can’t thank them enough for their support.

Racing tomorrow can’t wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That’s all for now, once again thank you for your kind messages.

Ciao, Ciao
