The Darwin Karting Association held Round Three of it's Wet Season Championship on Friday night. The ANZAC Day meeting began with a minute silence to remember and thank all those who fought so hard to keep our country free. The silence was soon over with the distinct sound of the Midgets ready to race. Blake Adcock a star of Midgets showed the way to all other drivers in the class with a great style and precision of his driving, Jordan Smith came a well deserved second place with only a point separating him and third place Jack Tippett who also drove exceptionally well proving his mentor Blake Adcock is a great teacher. The next class to go out on the track were the Rookies, good close racing was a pleasure for the spectators with the only incident being a crash in race three leaving Kirby May injured and requiring medical assistant which was quickly at the scene with St Johns Ambulance in attendance. The injury to a wrist required a little more attention so Kirby went off to the hospital just as a precaution. The placings in Rookies were Brodie Green racing beautifully all day being the winner Nathan Norman in second and Erin Barker third. Junior National racing was a well controlled affair, Kevin Norman and Jack Dalton swapped the lead all event with the winner being Kevin Norman, second Jack Dalton and third going to Stevie- Rae Green. Clubman were up next and with three classes in one race it was always going to be action packed. They separated by distance the Light, Heavy and Restricted classes by up to half a track. Spectators
were treated to some really close racing and duelling with Clubman Light consistant competitor Dane Beamsley winning the evening ahead of an equally consistant Chris Gatt, Royce Nott was also once again up on the podium for a third placing. Clubman Heavy competitors Martin Foscaro, Michael Barker and
Jamie Cox were three very entertaining competitors, with Michael and Martin not finishing heat two and Jamie not starting in the final. The placings were very close indeed with Martin and Michael tying for first place and Jamie coming in second. The next class was 125cc Restricted Light this is one class that has reportedly taken off in leaps and bounds down south. New comer to this class is Nyla Smith returning to the sport after a short absence of about 5 years, it is great to see another lady racing as they appear to be few and far between. Tim Driscoll and Myles Cook were once again seen to be duelling for the number one position but a great drive and a kart that didnt ever seem to want to stop saw Tim Driscoll come out on top of the field even rounding up some of the slower Clubman light drivers by the finish line. The class with most competitors on the track was Sportsman Light and Heavy combined, with no gapping of the classes was the call of the class at the driver's breifing. The racing started with twenty three competitors which from a spectator point of view is to say the least spectacular and well worth staying late for, there were several incidents in different heats throughout the night but by the final event the field had been reduced to nineteen competitors all of whom showed great maturity with some close tidy racing done by all. The placings were Royce Nott first, Ricky Jones second and Wendy O'Dowd coming in third for Sportsman Light. Placings for Sportsman Heavy a very elated Carl Oberhausen came in first, second was Patrick Hamon showing a once again consistant racing ability, Jarrod Goldini also displayed consistantcy throughout the evening giving him a third.
