CAMS seeking Formula 4 interest in appealing formula of the future

The new Formula 4 category will hit Australian circuits in 2015

In preparation for the anticipated arrival of Formula 4 in Australia in 2015, the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) is seeking interest from teams and competitors.

CAMS has sanctioned a new and exciting single-seater championship for 2015, the CAMS Australian Formula 4 Championship, in line with the FIA’s new Formula 4 regulations.

Formula 4 has been chosen by the FIA to bridge the gap between karting and Formula 3, Formula 1.

Priority is given to the making sure Formula 4 is about young elite drivers who must be at least 15 years of age.

It is expected that the CAMS Australian Formula 4 Championship will be held as support races for main national events and is likely to be included on the V8 Supercars Australia schedule, bringing with it high visibility through large viewing numbers on track and on television.

CAMS earlier this year launched a tender process for the organisation and promotion of the CAMS Australian Formula 4 Championship from 1 January 2015.

The new championship will be run in accordance with the new FIA Formula 4 sporting and technical regulations and is a slicks-and-wings formula based around a carbon chassis with a single engine partner and manufacturer.

The rules devised by the FIA are to ensure that the maximum costs for a 21-24 race season is around €100,000.

CAMS is estimating that the costs per annum for Australian competitors will be in the range of $150,000 – $165,000 per annum.

To register your interest, email formula4@cams.com.au or call CAMS General Manager of Motor Sport Michael Smith on CAMS toll free hotline 1300 883959 before 31 July, 2014.
